About West Coast
| The West Coast Region features a primeval landscape with towering mountains and icy glaciers The West Coast of the south island is rugged country with no room for image conscious, latte-loving city slickers. It rains a lot here. But who can deny the beauty of the wild rocky beaches and bush-clad hills? Largely untouched by man, this is a primeval region of rich rain forest, spectacular glaciers and fascinating eco-systems from the mountains to the sea. As such, it's little surprise that Hokitika hosts the annual Wild Food Festival. Although some might argue Greymouth (the largest town in the region with a population around 14,000) has the biggest claim to fame thanks to the Monteith's brewery. If you're looking for a job at a brewery that makes great beer, you love to be at one with nature or you're at all reclusive, the West Coast could be just what you want.
