About Canterbury

Canterbury is New Zealand’s largest region and includes the picturesque city of Christchurch

Christchurch – the hub of the Canterbury region – is 'The Garden City'.

You simply won't find anywhere more quintessentially English. Take a punt down the Avon River or pass by the grand Anglican cathedral in the main square and you will understand why.

Many say the further south you go, the friendlier the people. If that's true, it's doubly true that the further south you go the colder it gets in winter.

Not that you'd mind if you were a skier. Mt Hutt, a few hours drive inland from Christchurch, is arguably the best ski field north of Queenstown.

Other points worthy of special mention include the quaint French settlement at Akaroa, the thermal resort of Hanmer Springs and the local's love of rugby. As every man, woman and child will tell you, this is Crusaders territory.
